CYCLICAL
San Luis Obispo, CA
Transportable Shelter
Square Footage: 500 SF
SLOPE development team interpreted the Design Village competition theme: ETERNAL as an opportunity to create a structure that took inspiration from natural and its recyclable traits. CYCLICAL was a cardboard pavillion that was intended to be used as a golf net throughout the day and transition to a closed shell for sleeping at night which could be left on the hillside to become part of the landscape. The structure was created from cardboard and was held together with friction joints including the floor which was assembled from a cardboard waffle. The shapes were not only designed to be structurally preformative, they also were designed with inspiration from bones which served as a callback to its compostable nature.
